We actually use this on our bedroom door to deter our cat (who seems to think he's a dog) from scratching. He still scratches some, though much less often, and he is no longer able to damage the paint. We were worried that it would look really bad but it actually blends in well and isn't too noticeable. It's saved our door and now we can sleep better at night without kitty keeping us up!

Too thin for the persistent Hounds! Scratched through it in < week! Perhaps OK for chihuahuas! The hounds will need Lexan, stainless or aluminum.
